Our Top 5 Picks From Hong Kong’s Organic Luxe Beauty Haven Le Melior

5 Mins Read

Le Melior is a Hong Kong-based clean beauty curator, showcasing only the best organic and toxin-free skincare and cosmetics. The name is inspired by the french term for the best (“le meilleur”), and this meaning drives their philosophy that nature is the best route to take for our skin, our body and our overall well-being.

Like many successful entrepreneurs, Le Melior founder Kathy Kwok started her company because of a gap in the market. In early 2019, driven by the lack of safe, certification-backed, natural, and organic clean beauty products in the city, Kwok began searching for quality brands to showcase in Hong Kong.

Her focus is on products without synthetic fragrances, parabens, toxins and hard-to-read lists of toxic chemical ingredients, holding herself and Le Melior to the highest standards. Kwok is passionate about “sharing the love of better beauty “and wants to “help people discover a healthier alternative that is not only good for their skin, but also loved by their bodies.” She is also a believer in less is more, with a carefully curated selection of star products, some of which are conveniently multi-use. Not to mention that many of the brands are available in Hong Kong for the first time.

While every product on the site is lovingly chosen, we had to pick our faces so here goes: Le Melior’s Top 5 Green Queen Picks.

1. RAPHA Oil Cleanser – H IS FOR LOVE

The RAPHA Harmonising Oil Cleanser by American natural beauty brand H IS FOR LOVE is an oil-based face cleanser that gets rid of all the grime and debris while keeping our skin’s lipid barrier intact. Unlike foaming cleansers that strip our skin of natural oils that can lead to excess sebum production and cause breakouts, H IS FOR LOVE’s RAPHA solution is gentle yet purifying. It contains only natural and mostly certified organic ingredients such as the skin-appeasing Calendula and anti-inflammatory Chamomile alongside other nutrient-rich cold-pressed unrefined Pumpkin Seed, Castor Bean, Hemp Seed and Olive oil.

2. NECTAR Face Oil – H IS FOR LOVE

NECTAR is H IS FOR LOVE’s lightest moisturiser, which means it’s suited to everybody and everyone, even those who aren’t used to using facial oils. Just a few drops of NECTAR are needed to massage the luxurious oil into damp skin after cleansing and toning. Made from nourishing plant-based oils like Jojoba, Argan, Macadamia and Rosehip Seed oil, all high in linoleic acid and omega-3s, this superstar face oil (beauty editors can’t get enough!) helps to promote cell renewal, fight inflammation and strengthens skin against daily oxidative stress. Enriched with soothing herbs such as Calendula and Chamomile as well as essential oils of Grapefruit and Frankincense, this toxin-free all-natural is the perfect addition to your clean skincare routine.

3. PURIFY Face Wash – LINNÉ Botanicals

The PURIFY Face Wash by small-batch botanical skincare label LINNÉ Botanicals has become a daily obsession. Containing only non-toxic biocompatible ingredients that are easily absorbed and processed by the body, this EcoCert certified face wash helps to naturally neutralise free radicals, tone the skin, increase circulation, suppress bacteria and help treat problematic skin conditions such as psoriasis and acne. Bonus: it comes with a handy sea sponge and is able to naturally foam due to coconut-derived lathering agent Coco Glucoside, and draws impurities from our skin using French Green Clay and Bentonite. Packed with mineral-rich ingredients like Tea Tree Essential Oil, Olive Leaf Powder and Dead Sea Salt, this multi-performer doubles as a weekly mask, giving you that oh so deep cleanse without any of the associated dryness that most clay masks entail.

4. Organic Soothing Gel – Dr. Alkaitis

Formulated with chemist and molecular biologist Dr. Alkaitis’ signature skin-relieving complex, a resin made out of raw extractions from herbs and plants, this Organic Soothing Gel from the California-based brand helps to comfort and soothe the skin. An aloe vera-based gel infused with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial “living” ingredients like certified-organic Witch Hazel Distillate, Greater Nettle and Chlorella Extract and ethically-wildcrafted Myrrh, Sea Oak and Red Seaweed, this hydrating potion is especially suitable for skin sensitive to inflammation or prone to acne and blemishes. While its primary use is for calming, it is imbued with natural Vitamin B and Cs, offering additional brightness and restoration.

5. Aknari Brightening Youth Serum – MUN Skincare

The defining ingredient in this elixir developed by US-based cult natural beauty brand MUN Skincare is the superfood superstar prickly pear, aka cactus fruit. The Aknari Brightening Youth Serum contains prickly pear seed oil, an ingredient extremely high in linoleic essential fatty acid and Vitamin E, which paired alongside Argan oil helps to smooth wrinkles, repair sun damage, soothe inflammation and brighten any dark eye circles. With added Bulgarian Rose Essential Oil thrown into the mix, this serum also works as an under-eye treatment and helps to promote cell renewal while stimulating collagen production, leaving your skin looking radiant too.
